About This Role:
TRIA-FEDERAL supports the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (DOL BLS) by providing IT support services. We are seeking a skilled Unix Administrator to join our team and provide comprehensive support for the BLS Innovation Lab. The ideal candidate will be responsible for enforcing IT security procedures, administering RedHat Enterprise Linux systems, and providing technical support to ensure the smooth operation of the lab.

Responsibilities:


System Administration:
  • Administer RedHat Enterprise Linux systems, ensuring proper installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Utilize RedHat Satellite for automated provisioning and patch management of Linux servers.
  • Maintain and provide support for the BLS infrastructure services running on Linux Servers like EMAIL and Doman Name Services (DNS).
  • Administer Red Hat Linux servers, physical as well Virtual VMware Servers.
  • Experienced in configuring HP Blade servers in HP Synergy Frame servers.
  • Experienced in installing, configuring Red Hat Ansible and OpenShift.
  • Ensure infrastructure systems and components are available and functional per availability requirements. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues on Linux Systems and communicate with various teams to resolve issues in timely manner.
  • Experienced in installing and optimizing R & POSIT ( formerly R-Studio) on Linux Systems.

IT Security and Compliance:
  • Properly install and configure IT security settings and policies.
  • Enforce IT security procedures and policies to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Notify and escalate security vulnerability identified in the BigFix application and other CDM tools to GTM as soon as an issue is identified.
  • Implement security-related tools to monitor and report on network traffic and account audits.
  • Participate in security audits and assessments, providing comprehensive reports.
  • Familiar with some tools/methods to control SPAM email entering the BLS email infrastructure. Preferred experience with Cisco Secure Email appliances.
Technical Support:
  • Provide technical support for the BLS Linux infrastructure environments.
  • Provide technical support for BLS infrastructure services like EMAIL & Domain Name Service (DNS).
  • Install and report on monitoring tools to ensure operability transparency.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
  • Ensure that the core applications running on Linux Servers are upgraded to the latest release in a timely manner.
  • Perform quarterly testing on Back-up/Restore systems.
  • Provide timely technical support to staff for computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Manage requests submitted through the Ticketing System.
  • Monitor all outages until the issue is resolved.
  • Inform affected customers and the GTM promptly of the status.
Collaboration and Reporting:
  • Collaborate with different BLS technical teams to provide technology solutions.
Inventory Management:
  • Develop and maintain an accurate inventory of hardware and software licenses.
  • Provide an annual report of upcoming acquisition needs to maintain software and hardware lifecycle compliance and usage.
  • Notify BLS leadership of new requirements in a timely manner.
Infrastructure Management:
  • Manage approximately 250 Physical and Virtual Linux Based servers.
  • Oversee ESXi infrastructure supporting 100-150 virtual servers, with a mix of Red Hat Linux and Windows servers.
  • Assist in the migration of HP physical Linux Servers from HP C7000 frames to HP Synergy Blade Server technology.
 
The “Need-to-Have” Skills & Qualifications:
  • Six (6) years of experience enforcing IT security procedures, implementing security tools, and participating in security audits.
  • Six (6) years of experience administering RedHat Enterprise Linux systems and utilizing RedHat Satellite for automated provisioning and patch management.
  • Six (6) years of experience providing technical support, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network connectivity issues, and ensuring lab accessibility.
  • Six (6) years of experience installing, maintaining, and upgrading computer hardware, software, and peripherals, and performing quarterly testing on Back-up/Restore systems.
  • Six (6) years of experience managing physical and virtual servers, including overseeing ESXi infrastructure and assisting in the migration to HP Synergy Blade Server technology.
  • US Citizen or Green Card required
  • Must be able to pass a government background check
 
Professional Certifications:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator
Education:High School or equivalent
